Silver Pride

Locally  QC provides assistance with Aged Care Navigation
and their LGBTI seniors visiting service

Nationally LGBTI Health Australia (LHA) provides its Silver pride network. LHA has established a Living Experience Advocacy Panel (LEAP) . LEAP members provide advice, feedback, advocacy and guidance in response to national issues impacting older LGBTI people, particularly about aged care.

LEAP members participate in external consultations about ageing and aged care to inform policy and program development. They also provide advice to LHA on its own projects aimed at LGBTI older people. LEAP members may:

  • participate in consultations and focus groups
  • provide feedback on services and resources
  • participate in advisory groups and committees
  • share their story in publications and videos
  • write articles for newsletters and other publications. QTrans secretary Fran is a LEAP member.

Aged Care Justice (ACJ) has released a new fact sheet, about Restrictive Practices in Aged Care  to help members of the LGBTQIA+ community understand their legal rights. The factsheet specifically references Victorian and Federal law. Many of the elements apply to other jurisdictions. What
.Aged Care Justice (ACJ) does offer is nation wide help.
